The day I aquired this beauty, my heart beat a little faster. It can only be described as a "bakelite rush!" All collectors know the rarity of Martha Sleeper items, especially the iconic bird on a twig.
Three bakelite birds (orange, yellow and green)are perched on a carved wooden "branch". Each bird is securely screwed into the twig, as seen on the back view.
As our extreme close up photos show, the condition is what would be considered normal for an item close to 70 years old. Some wear to the paint, and the plastic coated "tails". The pin-back mechanism is fine.
*Note: the beak tips are painted white, they are not broken.
Measures: 3 3/4" x 1 1/2"
A similar pin, with 2 birds can be seen on page 55 of Bakelite Jewelry Book by Pina.
