This is a favorite and a sure fire attention-getter. This is a very dramatic necklace, with the bakelite ball and bold chrome.
The clasp is not original and has been replaced. The condition is good. There is significant chrome loss, which shows up as dull areas, but the necklace is still very wearable. Please see the photos for details. We will be happy to provide more photos if desired. The price reflects the condition.
The wearable length is 16", plus there is a little "stretch" which is intended in the design.
The center decoration is approx. 3" long.
The ball tests positive for Bakelite with Maas polish and smell test. This piece is unmarked. We feel this was made by the Jakob Bengel Company in Germany, circa 1930s. We cannot state this as fact because these pieces are never bear a manufacter's mark.
There are several necklaces which contain elements of this necklace in the book Art Deco Schmuck: Jakob Bengel - Idar-Oberstein / Germany (Art Deco Jewelry). We show pages 182-3 with our necklace.
