Pair of 1959 Carnival Medallion Necklaces, Mainz Germany

Price: $75.00

These 2 colorful large necklaces came from the 1959 Mainz Carnival in Mainz, Germany.
These are very high quality, very substantial souvenir medallions.    They are a nice shiny brass, and each one weighs over 55 grams. These look as though they were packed away for years and are in spectacular condition.  They are each on their original 27" colorful cords.

The mid-century graphics are very charming.
The backward soldier is from the Fools' Guard Parade.  The other one is a general Carnival medallion featuring champagne, a horn and mask. Both carry the date of 1959.
The maker is marked on the back of both pieces as "Jacques Herrmann, MAINZ"

The enameling is of high quality and is very nice, it is hard to believe these are over 50 years old.
Each medal measures approx. 3' by 2.5" (not counting the bale)

This is from the mainz.de website:
With scores of festivals, special events days and celebrations exclusive of the various wine festivals, Mainz is a never-ending party! This does not include the spectacular 5th Season or Carnival (Fastnacht or Fassenacht) which kicks off in November and goes full blast this year clear up to Ash Wednesday. Virtually every single Mainzer young and old takes part in the City's most elaborate and opulent „chase-away-winter's-woes" events
