Maricela was the name of the Taxco taller and shop owned by  Isidro Garcia Piña.  It was named for his eldest daughter.

This exciting necklace bears his first of three hallmarks, which dates it to the early 1950s (which may have pre-dated Sputnik).

Very unusual, perhaps even a one of a kind piece from the early days of the Taller Maricela in Taxco.  Sr. Garcia's necklaces are difficult to find, as his output seems to have been more focused on brooches.
This is atypical of Isidro Garcia Piña's normal leaf and coil designs.  It has a strong Danish influence, remarkable in it's minimal style.

This is strung on a strong cord, the clasp is attached with nylon cord. It is possible that the clasp was reattached at some time, please see close up in our slideshow.
